Blog 4: who is jesus to you?
We know the story, it’s world wide that Jesus died for us. Everyone seems to know the titles of Jesus right?
“Lamb of God”
“One and only Son”
“Savior of the World”
But what do these names actually mean? What does it actually look like to be saved by Jesus? And stay in this saving grace.
After we are saved then what? He takes all the stuff away from us and we are set free, but what happens next? We come to church on Sunday, we post here and there about Jesus, maybe a scripture or a good quote? ok cool, then what?
Are we just religious? Is this just something we do?
Why did Jesus die? Why did he die for me and you??
Who is JESUS???
Jesus asks the disciples this same question, and only one gets it right…
Matthew 16:13..He asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven.”
The Spirit of God revealed to Peter who Jesus was and is. I remember when I first got saved I didn’t know much about Jesus. I heard He had died on a cross for my sins. I seen the plays at church when we would go on Easter and I knew the story BUT i didn’t understand it. After I had a super natural encounter with JESUS, the living God, I was set to find out WHO HE WAS! I needed to know, and 10 years later, I’m still finding out who He is in every season of life. In the hard times, the good times, and everything in-between.
MAN! there is so much power when you receive the revelation of who Jesus really is IN YOUR LIFE. look at what Jesus tells Peter next…
18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:18-19
Not only did Jesus change Peters name from Simon to Peter I believe He changed His identity. No longer was Peter just a fisherman, living day to day consumed with the worlds troubles. NO he was now a instrument to be used by GOD! WOW! And so it is for you and I. We have this same authority! The enemy has no place to keep us stuck and in bondage. When you get this revelation (and I pray you do!) you will be able to walk as a new man or women of God knowing WHO Jesus is and the authority you possess by Him. The closer you get to knowing Him, the more you understand His power and freedom! We have to do our part to get the revelation. Peter was with Jesus 24/7 basically. Are we?
James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you…
Id love to say this is how this scripture ends but it goes on to say
…Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Ouch right? I was telling a friend recently, when I read the Bible 7/10 times I’m being corrected. Of course there’s also many times when I’m just blown away of Gods goodness and love and compassion He has for us, but most times I’m being corrected in a way that makes me want to be a better Christian. A better follower of a Jesus.
This does NOT come from watching a few sermon reels on Instagram or tik tok. Or even an hour preaching on YouTube.
This DRAWING closer to God will only come through the Word of God and prayer. An intimate and intentional relationship with Jesus.
It will take YOU drawing to Him.
I guess you can say I was hooked on Jesus. I got so blown away by His goodness, how He was just taking all these things from me that I RAN after Him. I needed to know who this Jesus was and what He was all about.
Who is Jesus!?
The beautiful thing is I’m still learning who He is. At every season in life you find out more about Jesus IF you draw to Him.
In your singleness, who is Jesus?
New to the faith, who is Jesus?
Married, who is Jesus?
Widowed, who is Jesus?
Raising kids, who is Jesus?
Grandparent, who is Jesus?
Even if you have forgotten, think about it, ask yourself, who is Jesus to me?
I remember two years ago or so my walk was getting dry, I felt in a valley of sort. Then this scripture came up.
Revelation 2:4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. 5 Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.
I had to get back to who Jesus was to me. I had to remember.
You know when you start to like someone? Don’t you just want to talk to them allll the time? On the phone or texting. Whenever there’s any chance to meet with them you’re like YES! I remember being like this with my husband. Any chance I got to talk to him I would for HOURS and hours! And then started falling in love with him. And hey! Here we are going on 8 years of marriage! Glory to Jesus!
But this is exactly how it is with Jesus!
He asks us, who do you say I am?
Maybe you’ve gotten lazy or you spiritual life is stagnant right now. It’s never too late to rekindle the flame. Do it now! Go back to that place God found you. Go back to that moment when you felt the lowest and God seen you through. The time you were in pain and you felt the comfort of the Holy Spirit. Go back to that place. Never leave THAT place. Never forget this falling in love with Jesus and drawing to Him. We will find true freedom and walk in a supernatural authority when we come to this place. I pray this has blessed you! Until the next one!
